Our story

Three beekeepers, one jar at a time.

Est. 2024 · Gordon’s Bay

Dew Honey started in 2024 with a few hives and a lot of curiosity. Today the three of us look after around thirty hives in the Gordon’s Bay and Stellenbosch area.

We build our own hive boxes, look after the colonies ourselves and only take what the bees can spare. Nothing goes into the jar except honey.

Every jar is filled and labelled by one of us. If you buy Dew Honey, you are buying it from the people who kept the bees.

The honey

One ingredient. Straight from the comb.

Our bees forage fynbos and gardens around the Helderberg and Stellenbosch, so every harvest tastes a little different. We strain it and put it in the jar. That is all we do to it.

From hive to jar

Small batches, done by hand.

Nobody else handles our honey. This is how it gets from the hive to your table.

  1. We build the hives

We design and build our own hive boxes, floors and lids from solid timber.

  2. The bees forage

Fynbos and gardens between the Helderberg, the bay and the Stellenbosch valleys.

  3. We harvest

When the frames are full we take the surplus, and the colony keeps enough to live on.

  4. We bottle

Strained, never heated, and jarred and labelled by hand in small batches.

Questions

Good to know

What does “raw” mean?
We never heat or pasteurise our honey, and we add nothing to it. It is strained to take out wax and bits of comb, then bottled. That keeps the natural enzymes, pollen and flavour of the flowers the bees visited.
My honey went thick and cloudy. Is it off?
No, that is crystallisation, and it is a sign of real raw honey. Stand the jar in warm (not boiling) water and stir until it is runny again. Honey does not go off when it is kept closed at room temperature.
Why does it taste different from last time?
Our bees forage whatever is in flower near the hives, so each harvest and each apiary tastes a little different. We think that is the best part.
Can children eat it?
Children over 12 months, yes. Honey is not suitable for infants under 12 months.
How do I get my honey?
Send us your order with where you are. We will get in touch and find a way that suits you, often on one of our trips around Gordon’s Bay and Stellenbosch. Orders of 15 jars or more, we deliver.
Can I order for gifts, an event or a shop?
Yes. Tell us how many jars you need and when, and we will come back to you with what we have available.
